Link to National Tau Beta Pi

Mission: Tau Beta Pi was formed to foster a spirit of liberal culture in engineering colleges and to mark in a fitting way those who have conferred honor upon their Alma Mater, based on either distinguished scholarship and exemplary character (e.g., integrity, breadth of interests in and out of engineering, adaptability, and unselfish service) as students of engineering, or based on their attainments as alumni in the engineering field.

Membership eligibility: Election to membership in the Association is accomplished only by vote of a collegiate chapter, and the members' chapter designations are always those of the chapters that elected them. In addition to being judged on the basis of personal integrity, breadth of interests both inside and outside engineering, adaptability, and unselfish activity, eligible students must meet the following scholastic standards: Juniors must be in the top eighth of their class, and Seniors must be in the top fifth of their class.

Chapter History: On January 8, 1949, the local engineering honors society at the University of Connecticut, Alpha Tau Phi, was initiated into the national Tau Beta Pi honor society as Beta of Connecticut.
