Mission: The purpose of this Society shall be to: 
1. Recognize superior achievement.
2. Recognize the development of leadership qualities
3. Foster high professional standards.
4. Strengthen commitment to the ideas and purposes of the profession. 
Membership eligibility: Candidates must have a 3.25 GPA for undergraduate acceptance, a 3.5 for Master's work, and a 3.75 for doctorate work. They must have demonstrated scholastic achievement, with the evidence of professional leadership potential, and/or marked achievement in the field of nursing. 

Chapter History: The University of Connecticut was inducted as the Mu chapter of Sigma Theta Tau in 1965.
