Mission: To recognize the highest levels of musical achievement and academic scholarship in colleges, universities, and other institutions of higher learning which must offer music degree programs in one or more fields. To foster scholarly interest in the theoretical and historical aspects of music and pursuit of eminent achievement in performance, composition, music education and research. To encourage members to maintain professional standards and use every opportunity to advance music as a vital part of our lives and cultural heritage. 

Chapter History: The Zeta Phi Chapter of Pi Kappa Lambda was established in 1989. 

Membership eligibility:  Juniors ranking in the highest tenth of the junior class, seniors ranking in the highest twenty percent of the senior class. Master's candidates will have satisfactorily completed all requirements for the degree by their graduation in May, and both graduate and doctoral students must have earned an A in no less than two-thirds of the graduate credits required for the degree. All potential nominees must be considered to be outstanding in scholarship and musicianship by the Faculty Committee. All inductees must have demonstrated the qualities of personal integrity, leadership, open-mindedness and intellectual stamina.
