Mission: Phi Kappa Phi was organized in 1897 to recognize and encourage superior scholarship in all academic disciplines. Phi Kappa Phi, being interdisciplinary, and thus drawing membership from all colleges, divisions, or departments with the academic institution, is a unifying force in education today.

Chapter History: There are presently 274 chapters in 49 states. The University of Connecticut Chapter was organized in 1951 and holds initiations twice a year.

Membership eligibility: Admission is by invitation only and requires approval by a local chapter.

Undergraduate seniors who are in the upper tenth of their class and have a minimum GPA of 3.6. Juniors who are in the upper fifth of their class with a minimum GPA of 3.7 may also apply.
Graduate students in the upper fifth of their class are selected for membership on the basis of an outstanding scholastic record.  Faculty members and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction may be elected to membership in limited numbers.
