Mission: Alpha Lambda Delta is a national society that honors academic excellence during a student's first year in college. Its purpose is to encourage superior academic achievement among students in their first year of higher education, to promote intelligent living and a continued high standard of learning, and to assist women and men in recognizing and developing meaningful goals for their roles in society.
Membership eligibility: Students are eligible for membership if they achieve a GPA of at least 3.5 during their first full time semester at the University. Eligible students will receive a letter inviting them to join during the spring semester of their freshman year. Students are inducted in the spring of their freshman year.

Chapter History: Alpha Lambda Delta was founded as an honor society for freshman women at the University of Illinois in 1924. The University of Connecticut chapter was installed in the spring of 1964.
